Ask For Rose

Galleri Kit and Gallery X, 2023

Ask for Rose is an ongoing performance project that centres the character, or alter-ego, of Rose. Available by phone, 24 hours a day for duration of exhibition, Rose is performed only when called (upon).

In the first iteration of the work, audiences were invited to phone the exhibited number, visible in a window gallery, and ‘Ask for Rose’ who, they were told, would read one of seven scheduled acts to them. The acts fluctuated between vignettes of fairy tales, found case files, diaries detailing explicit encounters, and a speculative screenplay.

Rose Awaits

Liv Ullmann Suite, Britannia Hotel, 25 May 2024, as part of Amateur Love Machine

Rose emerged first as voice but appears now in the flesh. Rose Awaits is the culmination of an artistic research project investigating grief, performativity, and the maternal bond. In the one-on-one narrative performance, Rose, the character-cum-alter-ego borne of this research, meets her audience for the first time. In the hotel room that is her stage she acts as a kind of idol. One sent forth to embody its central tensions: spectacle, vocality, and propriety.
